Neon Alphabet Series
I’ve always had a love of typography, typefaces and fonts. I’m fascinated by the personality in the design of each individual letter and the innate power of words. As a professional artist, my main muse comes from the colorful optimism of vintage neon signs in the bright daylight, along with the shadows they cast. In this series, I wanted to distill these graphic letterforms into the striking simplicity of color and shape alone.
This is a slight departure from my normal labor-intensive fine art medium of reduction linocut, where a single block is used to create a multi-colored piece. This alphabet is made by printing two separate, hand-carved linoleum blocks; the colorful font being printed first and then the black neon letterform printed over that. My goal is to highlight the simple beauty of this layered graphic pairing.
Each print is 8in x 8in. Printed with oil-based ink on Rives BFK with hand-deckled edges. Open Edition. Signed and dated (year) inverso. Lefner Editions “LE” embossed chop bottom left corner. All ink colors are hand-mixed and printed in small batches. Slight color variations may occur.
